Here is what people have to say

A gift to myself
I hesitated at the price. I'm always the one buying nice things for everyone else, so this time it was a gift to myself. Now it goes everywhere with me, my purse, the car, waiting rooms, and I've filled more pages in two months than in years of trying. Something this beautiful doesn't let you sit in a drawer. When it's full I just swap the inserts and keep the cover. Worth every penny.

After my mom
I started this journal a few weeks after I lost my mom. I wanted somewhere quiet to put the things I couldn’t say out loud yet. The Mocha was the right color, something about it felt grounding. The leather feels incredible in my hands. The handwritten welcome card from Madison made me cry a little, in the good way. I sat with the 100-day trial in the back of my head when I was clicking buy because I wasn’t sure I deserved to spend this much on myself. I’m grateful I did. This has held me through the worst months of my life.

First one I’ve kept
I have a drawer of journals I quit by February. This is the first one I’ve kept past month three. Missing a day doesn’t make me want to throw the whole thing out anymore.

Outlasting my therapy
My therapist told me to start writing between sessions and I figured if I was actually going to commit to this, I should commit to a journal worth committing to. The Mocha Pocket has been on my nightstand for four months and I haven’t missed a day. The ritual of opening the leather cover and picking up my pen just hits different than the composition books I started with. Came in like 3 days. The lifetime warranty is what closed it for me. I didn’t want something I’d outgrow. Honestly, this journal might outlast my therapy.

Becoming mine
Got this with two paper inserts AND a little brass charm already in the box, which I wasn’t expecting. I’ve bought a “leather journal cover” before where you basically pay for the cover alone and then have to source paper inserts yourself, and charms are usually an Etsy thing. Mine just came complete. Three months in I’ve added a moon charm I got with a refill order, swapped the black elastic for a forest green one, and I rotate between a lined insert, a dot grid one, and a blank one for sketching. It looks like a totally different journal than the one I unboxed. That’s the whole point I think. It becomes yours.

Worth spending on myself
I almost didn’t buy it because spending this on myself felt indulgent. Six months in, the cover looks better than the day it came. Best money I’ve spent on me.

From my dad, for my 30th
My dad bought this for my 30th birthday and I almost cried opening it. He told me he’d been seeing it on Instagram for months and finally pulled the trigger. The Bordeaux is gorgeous. The leather smells like real leather, not chemical, not like that “vintage leather” gift set my aunt sent me a few years ago that I left in the box. This is the kind of gift that actually changes your habits. I’ve written in it every morning for two months. The little charm he added on the strap was such a sweet touch.

Finally got one
These are literally always sold out so I was lucky to find an ad of their restock event. I’d had this in my cart twice in the last six months and missed both windows. This time I just bought it the second I saw the restock pop up, didn’t even think about it. Worth the wait honestly. The Bordeaux leather is way more gorgeous in person than in the photos and the photos are already pretty good. Showed up in 3 days. If you see one in stock in the color you want, pull the trigger because they don’t last.
Questions from people who almost didn’t buy.
What does my Archive come with?
Your Archive comes with three pre-installed complimentary inserts. Two of the inserts are premium Daolin paper inserts, and the third is a zipper organizer for cards, stamps, photos, or loose notes. Your journal also includes a complimentary charm, and arrives in a linen travel bag, which also makes it easy if you plan to gift The Archive.
Where is The Archive made, and where does it ship from?
It's designed in Los Angeles and made in small batches by hand. Every order is inspected before it leaves us and goes out with US shipping, so it reaches you quickly. If anything is ever wrong, the 100-day guarantee and the lifetime cover warranty have you covered.
How is this different from a Moleskine or Midori?
A Moleskine is a notebook. You fill it, finish it, buy another. A Midori is a traveler's notebook system designed around buying inserts separately. The Archive is the refillable cover plus a complete starter kit in one box, with US shipping and a lifetime warranty. Same cover, new pages, forever.
Pocket or Classic, which is for me?
Pocket if you carry it daily and write in shorter sessions. Back pocket, jacket, small purse. Classic if you sit down to write. Letters, longer entries, sketching, planning. Pocket fits anywhere. Classic gives you room to breathe.
Will it fit in my bag?
Pocket fits a back pocket, small purse, or jacket pocket. Classic is a bit larger than the size of a paperback and lives in a tote or purse.
What's the paper like?
Each insert has 76 pages of smooth, high-quality Daolin paper. It is fountain-pen friendly with minimal bleed-through and feathering, so it handles everything from a pencil or gel pen to a wet fountain nib beautifully.
How do refills work?
Slide the used insert out, slide a new one in. Refill 3-packs start at $19. That's about 228 pages for the cost of one decent notebook. Most customers set them on a 3-month cadence and stop thinking about it. Skip, pause, change cadence, or cancel from your account anytime. No phone calls, no retention scripts. When an insert is full, it slides out and goes on your shelf. The cover stays with you. Over the years, the stack of finished inserts becomes your archive.
What does the lifetime warranty cover?
Binding failure, cover failure, and hardware like the grommets. If something structural breaks, we replace it for free immediately, no questions asked, no shipping fee.
Is this a good gift?
Yes. Every Archive ships in a gift-ready linen bag, so you can hand it over as-is. It's our most-gifted product. If you're unsure on color, Bordeaux and Mocha are safe picks for someone whose taste you don't know well.
What if I don't love it?
Try The Archive for 100 days. If you don't fall in love, send it back for a full refund. We'd rather you find out it isn't right than keep something you won't use.
Is there a calendar insert?
Not yet. It is one of the most-requested things we are working on. Leave your email and you'll be the first to know when it's ready.
