Everything else she's given, the baby outgrows
Look at the pile from the baby shower. The newborn outfits with the tags still on. The swaddles. The tiny shoes nobody can walk in. Six weeks from now most of it will be in a donation bag, because babies grow faster than anyone can shop.
That is not a complaint about the gifts. Baby things are for right now.
A journal is for the part that doesn't come back: what those first weeks actually felt like. It is the one gift on the table that means more the bigger the baby gets.
