The drawer of half-finished notebooks was never proof of anything about you
A patient sat in my office last week and said, "I feel like a failure. I have a closet full of half-finished notebooks to prove it." She is 58. Her kids are gone, her husband is asleep by nine, and she was so tired of being tired she almost did not come in.
I hear a version of that sentence almost every week. A woman opens a drawer, sees four or five journals that all stop around page four, and reads it as a verdict on her character.
It is not a verdict. It is a receipt. Every one of those notebooks ended the same way, for the same reason, and the reason was never her.
